Summary
Katniss Everdeen lives in a post-rebellion North America now called Panem. Each year two children from 12 to 18, one boy and one girl, are selected by lot from each of the 12 districts to take part in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death in an arena. This is the Capital’s means of subjecting the districts. When her sister, Prim, is chosen, Katniss steps in and takes her place. During the Games, she struggles with her past, her romantic life, and most important: staying alive.Breakdown
Readability is incredibly good. The writing was active, short, and to the point. I especially found the voice and tense of the style rather maddening, a sort of present/future first-person narrative. It also wasn't excessively long. I would say that any decent reader could make their way though this book with ease.The plot was also an all-out 10. It was clear through the entire story, seamlessly unified throughout. It also was incredibly driving, keeping me flipping to the next page, hating each chapter break.
Character development was also well done. Each one has their own personality. Each of them act in natural and familiar ways. And they all are as complex emotionally as everyday people are.
The content is very decent, despite the subject matter. The Games, though a fight to the death, is not excessively descriptive, but still manages to get the point across. There is also a healthy touch of romance that complicates matters, but is not overly romantic.
